Joachim Perera obtained his MBBS in 1976 from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and MD (General Surgery) in 1983 from the Post- Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. In 2013 he completed the Post-Graduate Certificate in Medical Education, University of Dundee. He worked as a lecturer, senior lecturer and associate professor from 1978-2006 in the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo, and contributed immensely to the curriculum change in Colombo medical school and introducing applied anatomy to the undergraduate medical curriculum. He was the Director of the Medical Education and Research Centre of the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo from 2001-2003.
He joined the Human Biology division of the International Medical University(IMU), Malaysia in 2006 and currently work as an Associate Professor in Anatomy. He was the deputy director (quality) of the Medical Education and Research Centre at IMU from 2009 to 2013. He has published in indexed medical education journals, presented papers and conducted workshops in national and international conferences.
